Explain a running statement

A

A running statement shows a record of each person in a chain of possession, the property is usually evidence of the commission of an offence.

Who is the reporting officer/ what are there duties.

A

The person that takes the property. The reporting officer must complete and issue a property receipt, generate a QP0760 “property receipt” from QPRIME and place the property in the suitable property bag and seal it and then lodge it at a designated property point.

What is the purpose of a property receipt?

A

To ensure that a record exists of how the property came to be in police possession.

What actions can you take to find the owner?

A

Officers can check QPRIME for any complaint that might be linked to the property. If there is identification with the property, check QPRIME for details of the owner or complainant.

What should officers complete when property is returned to the finder?

A

Officers that dispose of the property by returning or giving it to its owner or person who had lawful possession of it before it came into the possession of the Service and who may lawfully possess same, are to obtain an indemnity receipt from the person receiving the property.
The receipt is QPRIME generated from the occurrence report or can be accessed from Forms select.
