Why is a preterm baby at an increased risk of NEC?

How does this lead to sepsis?

A

Necrotising enterocolitis

Gut is not ready to handle milk

Inflammation of the mucosa of gut wall can make it more leaky -> gut bacteria leaks out into the bloodstream -> sepsis
