Pressure Points & Stuns Flashcards
List & Explain the 5 Control Principles
Pain Compliance: the use of stimulus pain to control resistive behaviour
Stunning Techniques:
The stimulation of overwhelming sensory input that is sudden, intense and unexpected
Distraction Techniques:
Weaken motor action by changing the thought process
Balance Displacement:
The use of control techniques that displace balance through the principles of leverage
Motor Dysfunction:
A control striking technique that over stimulates motor nerves. Resulting in temporary muscle impairment
Identify the two methods of application & the most applicable control principle for each
Touch Pressure:
- Pain Compliance
Striking
- Motor Dysfunction
List the 5 steps that should be followed to correctly apply touch pressure to a nerve pressure point
1- stabilize the head 2- apply pressure/ counter pressure 3- use digital tip pressure 4- give loud, repetitive verbal commands 5- alleviate the pressure when command is obeyed
