Abraham Lincoln (m4 1861-1865 apr15). Republican. Lincoln was consistently anti-slavery, but not necessarily pro-abolitionist (as many presidents). He felt justified in freeing the slaves of the Confederacy, but did nothing to free slaves of the north.

John Adams (march 4 1971-march 4 1801). Federalist. -> Not to be mistaken with John Quincy Adams. Despised slavery (he had a practical distaste, thought it was as dangerous as leaving gun powder in the kitchen).

George Washington (april 30 1732- March 4 1799). Independent party. 2 terms. Two (4 yrs each). His retirement after the second term established a precedent which held until 1940 and was enacted into law by the 22nd Amendment 1951.
