Prelim Preperation Flashcards
When a Single Acting cylinder instrokes, does it create a force?
No, it creates a force when it outstrokes.
The size of the force produced by a Single Acting cylinder depends on what two things?
The air pressure supplied and The surface area of the piston.
Is it a single acting cylinder or a double acting cylinder that has a spring?
Single Acting Cylinder.
What is Air Pressure measured in?
Bars or N/mm2 (Newtons per squared millimetre)
How do you calculate the surface area of a piston?
π x Radius² ( πx R²)
What is the calculation used to find the force of a Single Acting cylinder?
Force = Pressure x Area
During the outstroke, does the compressed air push against the surface area of the piston in the same way as the Single Acting?
Yes it does.
During the instroke, is the surface area reduced because of the piston rod?
Yes it is.
How do you find the effective area of a Double Acting cylinder?
Effective area = Piston Area - Piston Rod Area (Ae = Ap - Apr)
Movement Multiplier Ratio - Is the formula for MMR Driven/Driver or Driver/Driven?
The MMR is Driven/Driver
Why do we use Idler Gears?
To get the DRIVEN Gear to rotate in the same direction as the DRIVER.
2 Important things about Idler Gears?
- It has no effect on the MMR of the system. 2. The size of the Idler Gear is not important but it is normally small.
How do you calculate Force/Weight?
Force = Mass x Gravity (F = MG)
What are the four main types of Energy?
Kinetic, Potential, Electrical, and Heat.
What is Kinetic Energy?
It is the Energy of Movement.
