Practice Test 16 Flashcards
What refers to a laser printer component that holds representation of the output image drawn on its surface by the laser printer’s laser?
The Imaging Drum
What refers to a laser printer component that applies high temperature and pressure to bond the toner to the paper?
The Fuser Assembly
What refers to a component that picks up all layers of an image from imaging drums before passing the complete image onto the paper?
The Transfer Belt
What does the transfer roller do in a laser printer?
To apply an electrical charge to the paper to move the representation of an image or text (consisting of toner) to the paper from the imaging drum
What are Impact Printers?
These printers have a mechanism that touches the paper in order to transpose the image at the point of impact
What is a Dot Matrix Printer?
Dot Matrix Printers use paper with holes along each side, and use a series of small letter shaped pins to strike a ribbon coated with ink cause a transfer to the paper
What is a Character Printer?
Character Printers are devices that can apply ink to any surface, think Best Before Dates on supermarket goods, of which Dot Matrix Printers are derivatives
What are Non-Impact Printers?
These printers do not touch the page when creating an image.
What is an Inkjet Printer?
Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles to spray drops of ink directly on the paper
What is a Laser Printer?
Laser Printers use dry ink (toner) along with static electricity and heat to place and bond the ink to the paper
What is a Solid Ink Printer?
Solid Ink Printers contain sticks of wax-like that are melted and applied to the paper, after which the ink then hardens
What is a Dye-Sublimation Printer?
A Dye-Sublimation Printer is a printer that uses a heating element varying in temperate depending on the desired print, held over a solid dye film. The Dyes vaporise and permeate the glossy surface of the paper, before cooling back down
What is a Thermal Wax Printer?
Thermal Wax Printers use a ribbon of alternating CMYK colour bands, which pass in front of heated print heads, melting their wax and adhering the droplets to the paper
What is a Thermal Autochrome Printer?
Thermal Autochrome printers have the colour stored in layers of the paper. The print head has a heating element with different layers activated by different temperatures.
What printer hardware prevents multiple sheets of paper from being fed into the printer at the same time?
The Separation Pad and the Pickup Roller
