A
- been chancellor since March 1930
- Little support and dependent on rule by presidential decree
- He was overly dependent on Hindenburg which lead to a loss of support from the Reichstag

A
Much violence
- 100 people killed an 1,125 wounded in clashes between parties
- On July 17 19 people where killed in Hamburg during a party rally

What happens in the election of July in 1932?
A
- Nazis won 230 seats and now the largest party in the Reichstag
- Franz von papen of the centre party did not have the most seats but didn’t relinquish his post as Chancellor ( he was appointed in June 1932 after Brünig) and schemed with Hindenburg

What did Hitler really want in a meeting in august of 1932 ?

- He began demanding that he should get the position of chancellor
- Hindenburg refuses even if he did have the largest party within the Reichstag

What did papen hope for ?
A
- He felt the Nazis where loosing momentum and would slowly disappear
- He was correct about them loosing momentum
- Nazis loose votes as they had 37.4% in July 1932 then 33.1% by November 1932

- He is protected by Hindenburg who refuses to think of Hitler as a chancellor
- However by 1933 he was vice chancellor under Hitler and assumed Hitler would be dominated
