What is a simile?
A simile is a saying something is similar to something using like or as. It helps create a picture or emphasise something.
What is a metaphor?
A metaphor is when you say something is something else to show they are similar. Ex. The man is a dragon guarding his treasure.
What is caesura?
Caesura is when you pause in the middle of the line to create an effect.
What is enjambment?
Emjambment is when you carry on the sentence across a line or a stanza
What is tone and tonal shift?
Tone is how you create a mood using rhyme rhythm. Tonal shift is when you pause or carry on across a line to change the rhythm.
What is iambic pentameter?
Iambic pentameter is a rhythm structure that uses unstressed and stressed sylables in groups of five. Ex da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM
What is personification?
Personification is when you give an object verbs that only living things can do.
What is alliteration?
Alliteration is when the same sound is at the start of a word in a sentance more than once.
What is a rhyme scheme?
A rhyme scheme is when or how often you rhyme during a stanza.
What is rhythm?
Rhythm is the amount of stressed and unstressed syllables in the sentence.
What is repetition?
Repetition is when you use the same word more than once to create effect.
What is onomatopoeia?
onomatopoeia is the sound something makes.
What is slang?
Slang is words that are informal. They are not very common in writing.
What is colloquial language?
Colloquial language are slang words and informal words. Ex gonna, wanna, y’all
What is nonsensical language?
Nonsensical language are words that don’t mean anything. They can be used to show that someone is child like
