Plate Tectonics: What landforms and associated tectonic phenomena are found at plate boundaries? Flashcards
1
Q
What are all the landforms covered in the syllabus for plate tectonics?
A
- Fold mountains
- Rift valleys and block mountains
- Volcanoes
2
Q
Features of fold mountains
A
- Compressed and folded layers of rock
- Usually comprised of sedimentary rocks
- Great heights and lengths
3
Q
How are fold mountains formed?
The detailed one
A
- Formed along converging continental plate boundaries
- Compressional forces create great pressure and layers fold as plates move towards each other and collide
- Increasing force on one limb of a fold may cause the fold to buckle, and the limb may move forwards to ride over the other limb
