plant hormones Flashcards
1
Q
plan an investigation to show the effect of light from one direction on the growth of plant seedlings
A
- measure the height of the shoots using a ruler
- place one pot of seedlings in the dark with light from one side
- place one pot with light all around it as a control variable
- keep the temperature the same
- after 2 days record the direction the seedlings grow in/to
- re measure the height of the shoots
- to measure the bent shoots use a thread to straighten them out and measure length of thread with ruler
- calculate the mean height increase for each group/pot of seedlings
- then compare the growth of plants with light from one direction with plants in full light
2
Q
explain how phototropism in a plant shoot helps the plant to survive?
A
- since the plants grows towards the sunlight it absorbs more sunlight
- so more photosynthesis
- so plant produces more glucose
3
Q
what effect does auxin have on the appearance of a plants root?
A
- the auxin accumulated on the lower side of the plants which causes an uneven distribution of auxin
- so the top grows faster than the bottom in the root causing it to grow downwards towards gravity
