The remains or signs of ancient plants and animals preserved in rock.
What is the defernition of ANCIENT?
Things from a very long time ago.
What are fossils formed in?
Sedimentry Rocks

Dinosaurs, wooly mammoths, ect.
What is a BODY FOSSIL?
Hard parts of the body.
What is a TRACE FOSSIL?
Footprints that are fossils.
What do body fossils tell us?
It tells us the animals/plants body structure.

Plants with hard spiky leaves and big cones.

What does preserved mean?
It did not rot away.
Why are fossils important?
They tell us about plants and animals that lived millions of years ago.
What does extinct mean?
No longer exists. Such as some plants and animals that no longer exist.
How are fossils formed?
When living things are trapped in the layers of sedimentary rocks.
What do the layer in sedimentary rocks tell us about the age of fossils?
If the fossil is at the top layer it is younger than fossils found on the bottom layers.
