Q

What is the equation for the electric field strength on a point charge?

A

E=(Q/(4πε0r^2))

  • E is the electric field strengh in Newtons per coulomb [N C^-1]
  • Q is the charge of the charge creating the field in coulombs [C]
  • ε0 is the permittivity of free space in farads per metre [F m^-1]
  • r is the separation of the charges from their centres in metres [m]
