Physics Flashcards
What is a neutral object?
Object that has equal proton and electron
What is positive and negative
When there is an inablance
What is a charged object
When objec texert an electric force (pulling or repulsing
Do two neutral object exter a force on each other
No
What happens when a charged object is near a neutral
Electrons in neutral will induce towards it and the opposite for negative
What are three methods of charging
Friction. Conduction. Induction
What is charging by friction
Two different neutral materials are rubbed together or come in contact and electric charges are transferred
What is the electrostatic series
A list of materials in increasing tendency to gain electrons
What is conduction
When two objects have different amounts of electron charge and come in contact.
What is grounding
Objects with excess charge ( positive or negative) can have the aforementioned excess charge removed by placing the object to the ground.
What is difference between good conductor and fair
Both can conduct but good is better
What is insulation
It prevents heat and electricity from entering. This happens because the electrons are tightly bound to atoms make up the materials. Include non-metals
What is induction charging
When a charged object is brought near a neutral object it induces electrons in the object to divide in half.
What is the way to make induction charging permanent
If you divide electrons then ground opposite charged half then it will be permanency charged
What is lighting
Electric discharge in clouds. Separation of charges like induction.
