Mobility, isolation, control, stamina, flexibility, alignment, balance, posture, extension, co-ordination, strength.
Define mobility.
The range of movement in a joint, the ability to move fluently from action to action.
How does mobility contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Gives fluidity to movements, unlock better movement, makes joints healthier and decreases risk of injury.
Define isolation.
An independent movement of part of the body.
How does isolation contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Creates a seamless dance movement, eyes are drawn to this movement, giving it importance.
Define control.
The ability to start and stop movement, change direction, and hold a shape efficiently.
How does control contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Control helps to maintain good timing, dancers understand where movements start and stop.
Define stamina.
The ability to maintain physical and mental energy over periods of time.
How does stamina contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Improves performance ability, increased oxygen supply to muscles which reduces risk of fatigue, enhances concentration, reduces risk of injury.
Define flexibility.
The range of movement in the joints, involving muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
How does flexibility contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Increases range of motion, helps a dance appear more seamless, reduces risk of injury and soreness, elongates lines which enriched the look of a performance.
Define alignment.
The correct placement of body parts in relation to others.
How does alignment contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Allows dancers to move freely and reduce the risk of injury, strengthens dancers muscles, makes dancers more confident, puts less strain on muscles and joints.
Define balance.
A steady or held position achieved by an even distribution of weight.
How does balance contribute to the effectiveness of a dance?
Makes smooth, complete moves, creates secure, controlled movements, helped by good posture.
