Photosynthesis Reaction Flashcards
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —> Oxygen + glucose
Write the balanced symbol equation for photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
What is an exothermic reaction?
Releases energy so energy is on the PRODUCT side of the equation
What is an endothermic reaction?
Absorbs energy so it is on the REACTANT side of the equation
What type of reaction Is photosynthesis (exo/endo)?
Endothermic -
Plants absorb energy from sunlight, which comes from the sun. Plants use this energy to turn carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose
How are Palisade cells adapted to their job?
- Near the top the cell
- Contain lots of chloroplasts (absorb energy from sunlight for photosynthesis)
What are the air spaces between spongy mesophyll cells meant for?
Allow carbon dioxide to diffuse in and oxygen to diffuse out
What is a guard cell’s function?
- Allow Gas Exchange to occur
- Controls water loss within the leaf
Day time: water flows into a pair of guard cells - rigid
Night time: water flows out guard cells - less rigid
Prevents plants from wilting
