Photosynthesis Flashcards
What did the overall reaction of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water -> sugar + oxygen
What is the definition of photosynthesis?
Light energy is converted into chemical energy through a series of enzyme-controlled reactions
What are the names of the stages in photosynthesis?
Light reactions + Carbon fixation
What is produced in the first stage that goes onto the second stage and what leaves the cell?
Hydrogen and ATP go to the second stage
Oxygen diffuses from the cell
Where does the energy come from to perform the second stage (carbon fixation)
ATP -> ADP + Pi
What is produced during Carbon fixation?
Glucose
What is the reaction for Carbon fixation?
Carbon dioxide + hydrogen -> glucose
What is the reaction for light reactions?
Light
Water ——> oxygen + hydrogen
ADP + Pi > ATP
What is the sugar produced from photosynthesis used for
Respiration
Converted into starch (storage)
Converted into cellulose(found in cell walls)
What is a limiting factor
Any factor that can prevent a reaction progressing at its fastest rate
What are three limiting factors of photosynthesis
Light intensity
Carbon dioxide concentration
Temperature
If a limiting factor of photosynthesis increases but reaction rate does not increase what is happening
The other limiting factors are slowing down reaction rate
