Pharmacology Flashcards
What is Citalopram used for?
Depressive illness + panic disorders
What is Lorazepam used for?
Anxiety, acute panic attacks mild sedation
What is Onlanzapine used for?
Schizophrenia, mania + social anxiety
What is Moclobemide used for?
Depressive illness + social anxiety
What is the MOA of Citalopram?
- SSRI
- ST = increase in synaptic serotonin
- LT = down reg in post-synaptic serotonin receptors
What is the MOA of Lorazepam?
- Benzodiazepine - acts on GABA
- Potentiates effects of GABA which increases neuronal hyperpolarisation by increasing Cl- influx
What is the MOA of Onlanzapine?
Agonises 5-HT2A serotonin receptors + D2 dopamine receptors
What is the MOA of Moclobemide?
- Selective (reversible) MAO inhibitor
- Can prevent clearance of serotonin, noradrenaline + dopamine from synaptic clefts
What are the ADR’s of Citalopram?
- QT interval prolongation
- GI disturbances
- Sexual dysfunciton
- Sleep disorders
What are the CI’s of Citalopram?
- Poorly controlled epileptic
- Pre-existing long QT interval
- Manic
What are the ADR’s of Lorazepam?
Amnesia, confusion, ataxia
What are the CI’s of Lorazepam?
- Resp weakness
- (Chronic) psychosis
- Sleep apnoeic
What are the ADR’s of Onlanzapine?
- QT interval prolongation
- Weight gain
- Insomnia
- Erectile dysfunciton
What are the CI’s of Onlanzapine?
Cardiovascular pahtologies
What are the ADR’s of Moclobemide?
- Confused states (agitation) - Dizziness
- Dry mouth
