pH curves and titrations Flashcards
How do you use a pH meter
Have a probe with a bulb on the end, and a digital dispaly
Calibrating the pH meter
Place the bulb of the pH meter into distilled water and allow the reading to settle
Adjust to 7
Repeat with a standard solution of ph 4 and 10
What is the endpoint/ equivalence point on pH curves
The vertical point
H+ and OH- are equal to each other
NEUTRALISATION
at the end point, what does Ka = and what does pKA equal
Ka= H+ pKa= pH
Indicator for… Strong acid/strong base
Phenophalein and methyl orange
Indicator for.. strong acid and weak base
Methyl orange
Weak acid/ strong base
Phenophalein
indicator for weak acid adn weak base
No sharp ph change ,neither
Low vs high pH for phenophalein
Colourless low
PInk for high
Low vs High pH for methyl orange
Red for low
Yellow for high
What are indicators
Have different colloured conjugate pairs to thier weak acid
