Influential power
is used to influence and persuade the consumer and is often used in poster advertisements through direct address, second person pronouns, and imperatives
Ethos
To convince its audience/readership of the author’s credibility so that they decide he is worth listening to. This is done through sounding fair and unbaised, and using suitable lexis and grammar
Pathos
To persuade an audience by appealing to their emotions. This is mostly used by authors to make their audience feel what the author intends them to feel. This is done through emotive language and realistic imagery
Logos
The appeal of logic that is used to convince an audience through reason. This is done through citing facts and constructing logical arguments
Allusion
A short reference to a famous person, place or event
Anaphora
a rhetorical device that repeats the same words at the beginning of successive phrases or sentences
Tricolon
The use of words, phrases, examples in threes
Homophone
Words which are spelled the same or sound alike but have a different meaning
