How do you decide which goal to use?
coin toss (assign a goal to each side)
How do you decide who kicks first/second?
coin toss. Winning team chooses to go first or second
Who are eligible to kick?
Any player who is on the field at the end of the match.
Who determines kicking order?
Each team decides their order.
The referee is not informed of the order.
What happens if one team has less players available to kick?
Before kicks start the team with additional players must inform the referee of the player(s) that will be excluded from PKs.
What if the keeper becomes injured?
The keeper may be replaced by a permitted substitute (if they have remaining subs), anyone on the pitch, or a player who was excluded to equalize the number of PK takers.
Who is permitted to be on field during PKs
Eligible players and match officials.
Where should players be positioned during PKs
Within the center circle.
Where should the inactive goalie be positioned?
On the goal line just outside where it meats the penalty area.
When is a kick completed?
When it stops moving, goes out of play, or if the referee stops play for any offense.
What should the referee keep track of?
The order of those who have taken kicks and their outcome.
What is the sanction if the goalkeeper commits an offense and, as a result, the kick is retaken?
the goalkeeper is warned for the first offense and cautioned for any subsequent offense(s)
What is the sanction if the kicker is penalized for an offense committed after the referee has
signaled for the kick to be taken?
That kick is recorded as missed and the
kicker is cautioned
What do you do if both the goalkeeper and the kicker commit an offense at the same time?
The kick is recorded as missed and the kicker is cautioned
Can a team change the order of the PK takers?
Yes, once all of their eligible players have taken a kick.
Can players be cautioned and sent off during PKs
Yes
What happens if a team is reduced to less than 7 players during PKs?
PKs continue. The match is not abandoned.
Are yellow cards carried into the shootout
