Pathway of water & minerals in plants Flashcards
EXAM
what are four things absorbed by plants regularly?
Minerals
Water
Carbon Dioxide
Sunlight
What are 2 things that must be absorbed by the root and transported throughout the plant?
Water
Minerals
What is the xylem?
The xylem is the tissue that transports water & mineral salts throughout a plant
What is the phloem?
The phloem is the vascular plant tissue that is responsible for the transport and distribution of sugars produced by photosynthesis
What is translocation?
Translocation is the transport of food from the leaves to other parts of the plants by the phloem
How does a flowering plant absorb water?
The root hair cells absorb water and minerals through osmosis then the xylem transports water & minerals from the roots. Transpiration then pulls the xylem sap upwards
How does a flowering plant absorb sugar?
Sugars are transported from the site of production, throughout the plant by the phloem and stored
