Particular cases of loading - Tension / Compression Flashcards
1
Q
What is the equation for stress we can use that only applies to uniaxial loading?
A
Stress = Force / Area
2
Q
What is the principle of superposition?
A
The resultant stress or strain at a point in a solid subjected to the action of a number of forces is the algebraic sum of the stresses/strains due to each force as if acting independently
3
Q
What conditions are required for the principle of superposition?
A
- The loading must be linearly related to the stress / displacement
- The loading must not be significantly change the initial geometry of the structural member
