Q

Masseter

A

Zygomatic arch to lateral aspect of the ramus of the mandible
Elevates mandible

Q

Lateral pterygoid

A

Upper head- infratemporal surface of greater wing of sphenoid
Lower head- lateral surface of the lateral pterygoid plate
Inserts into neck of mandible and articulate disc
Pulls neck of mandible forwards with articular disc
Helps in lateral chewing movements with medial pterygoid
Nerve to lateral pterygoid- anterior divison of mandibular of trigeminal

Q

Medial pterygoid

A

Superficial head from the tubercle of the maxilla
Deep head from medial surface of lateral pterygoid plate
Inserts into medial surface of the angle of the mandible
Assists in elevation
Nerve to medial pterygoid, from mandibular of trigeminal

Q

Posterior branches of external carotid artery

A

Occipital- crossed by hypoglossal nerve, passes under posterior belly of Digastric to post triganle
Posterior auricular- level of upper border of belly of Digastric

16
Q

Anterior branches of external carotid artery

A

Superior thyroid- runs with external laryngeal nerve branches to SCM and superior laryngeal artery
Lingual- passes deep to hypoglossus, crossed by hypoglossal nerve
Facial- passes deep to posterior belly of Digastric.

17
Q

Terminal branches of external carotid artery

A

Superficial temporal- divides into anterior and posterior branches that supply skin over the frontal and temporal regions
Maxillary- branches to muscles of mastication, tympani membrane, upper and lower teeth, palate, nasal cavity, nasopharynx and meninges
