Paper 2 Flashcards
There’s a total of 250 women,men, and children on the train. The ratio of men to women is 4:5. The ratio of women to children is 10:7.
How many men are on the train?
Make the amount of women the same
M:W. W:C

8:10: 7 Add 8+10+7= 25 parts. Divide 250 by 25 =10
Men= 8(10) = 80 men
Floor plan of a rectangular room - 4.5m by 3m
Each square is measuring 50 by 50cm. The tiles are only sold in packets of 10. Each packet costs £20.Tim pays a fitting rate at 7.50 which each square metre rounded up.
Work out the cost of fitting and tiles.
Turn m into cm > multiply by 100
Divide 450cm and 300cm by 50 = 9 and 6.
Multiply 9 and 6 = 54. Packets only come in 10 so round up to 60 = 6 packets.
6(20) £120. Tiles = £120.
Find the cost of fitting : find the area of a rectangle = 4.5(3) = 13.5
Round up to 14. 14(7.50) = £105.
£105+120= £225
3(2x+D) + C(X+5) = 10X+17
Find the value of C and D
6X+3D +CX +5C = 10X+17.
6X+CX=10. 6+C =10. -6. C= 4.
5C +3D =17. 5(4)+3D = 17. 20+3D = 17. -20.
3D=-3. D=-1
C=4 D=-1
Owen weighs 6 stones and 4 pounds. There are 14 pounds in a stone. Convert Owen’s weight into kilograms.
6(14) = 84 pounds. Add on the 4 pounds = 88 pounds.
To convert into kg»
88(10)= 880
880/22= 40 KG
The ratio of flour to butter is 5:4
The ratio of butter to sugar is 2:1
The total weight is 770g. Work out the weight of each ingredient.

A water company charged the following:
£2.00 for each m^3 of water used plus a fixed charge of £45.
Jenny uses 110m^3 of water.
For the 12 months of 2017 she paid £20 per month to the water company. How much more does she need to pay to the water company?
Cost of water used: 2.00(110) = £220.
Fixed charge: 220+45 = £265.
1 year cost: 20(12)= £240.
Fixed charge- yearly charge
265 - 240 = 25
£25
The depth of water in a garden pond is 57.8cm. The depth increases by 0.3 cm per day.
Assuming that the depth continues to decrease at the same rate.
After how many days will the depth reach 54.2 cm?
57.8- 54.2 =
Emily spent £2400 on holiday in 2017.
This was 20% more than she spent on holiday in 2016.
Calculate the amount she spent on holiday in 2016.
100+20 = 120%
120%= 2400 1% = 20 100%= 2000
Nutritional information for a 110g serving of cereal.
Carbohydrates: 99.4g
Proteins: 9.5
Fats:1.1g
Emily says that more than 90% of this serving is carbohydrates. Is she correct?
Find 90% of 110g = 99
Emily is correct
Liam is 0.83m tall. William is 1.31m tall.
Jacob is taller than Liam by half the difference between Liam’s height and William’s height. How tall is Jacob?
Find the difference between Liam and William’s height
1.31m- 0.83m = 0.48m
Find 1/2 of 0.48 = 0.24
Jacob is taller by half the distance so add Liam’s height
0.24+ 0.48 = 1.07
The width of a rectangle is (x+5) cm.
The ratio width: length of the rectangle is 48cm.
Calculate the area.
To find the length double X+5 = 2X+ 10.
X+5, X+5, 2X+10, 2X+10 = 6X +30
6X+ 30 = 48cm
- 30
6X = 18 X = 3
Width ; X+5 (3+5) = 8
Length : 8 (2) = 16
16 x 8 = 128 cm
A circle with centre O and radius 6cm, contains another circle, with centre O and radius X cm.
Write down an expression, in terms of x and π, for the shaded area in cm^2
Area of big circle: six squared = 36 π
Area of small circle: x squared = x^2 π
Takeaway= 36 π - πx^2
Work out 2 x 10^2 x 4 x 10^5
2(4) = 8
10^2 + 10^5 = 10^7<
8 x 10^7
Solve by factorising X^2- 7X+10 = 0
X^2 -7x + 10 = 0
Two minuses make a positive ten and - 7

Three regular polygons meet at a point.
60 X X
Find the number of sides of each of the three regular polygons in the diagram.
2X + 60 = 360
2X = 300 X = 150.
180-150= 30
360/30 = 12
