now you are going to shake the medicine to mix it. remind patients that the medicine must be injected immediately after mixing.
push down on the plunger to transfer the liquid into the vial. keep your thumb firmly down on the plunger.
shake hard until liquid and powder are mixed well. tell patients to shake like they would a bottle of oil and vinegar salad dressing.
when mixed well, the medicine should look cloudy; there should be no visible clumps or white powder. Patients can refer to the Instructions for Use for images of properly mixed medicine.
keep holding the plunger as you turn the vial upside down and tap to help the medicine drip down.
bubbles are normal and not harmful.
pull the plunger beyond the black dashed dose line.
twist the vial connector to remove the vial from the syringe.
attach the needle onto the syringe by twisting it on.
slowly push the plunger so the top lines up with the black dashed dose line. pull the needle cover straight off.
inject subcutaneously immediately to deliver a single weekly dose of Bydureon.
encourage patients to follow the steps in the instructions for use booklet when they are preparing their dose at home.
