P6 Flashcards
deals with the interaction of matter, force, and energy. It is traditionally divided into classical and modern physics.
Physics
deals with motion, force, work, energy, and fluids.
Mechanics
deal with the effects of heat when added to or removed from a system, the methods of heat transfer, and the transformation of heat energy to mechanical energy or work and vice versa.
Heat and thermodynamics
deals with the study of light and its properties.
Optics
deal with the phenomena associated with electrical charges (whether at rest or moving), magnetism, and the relationship between electricity and magnetism.
Electricity and magnetism
deals with the properties, transmission, and perception of different types of waves.
Wave motion and sound
deals with the properties of and the reaction within the atomic nucleus.
Nuclear physics
tells how matter curves space-time and how the curvature of spacetime dictates the trajectory of matter and light.
General relativity
deals with the phenomena associated when an object moves with speeds approaching the speed of light in a vacuum.
Special relativity
deals with the building blocks of matter called elementary particles.
Particle physics
deals with the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic levels.
Quantum mechanics
is the process of comparing something with a standard. To carry out measurements, a system of standards and a system of units should be defined.
Measurement
is a convenient and widely used method of expressing large and small numbers.
is a way of expressing the smallest & largest number as a product of a decimals and a power of ten.
Scientific notation
RULES FOR SIGNIFICANT FIGURES
All non-zero digits are significant.
All zeros between non-zero digits are significant.
All zeros to the right of the decimal point of a number less than 1 are significant.
All zeros to the right of the decimal number of a number less than 1 are significant.
If a decimal number is less than 1, in which zero is used to fix the position of the decimal number.
