p6 Flashcards
what is frequency?
n.o. of waves per second.
time period equation:
time period= 1 dividend by the frequency.
wave speed equation:
wave speed = wavelength times frequency
what is angle of incidence = to?
angle of reflection
what type of wave is a sound wave?
a longitudinal
what type of waves a p waves?
longitudinal
what type of waves a p waves?
longitudinal
what can p waves travel through?
solids and liquids
what type of waves are S waves?
transverse waves
what can S waves travel through?
solid
what are the properties of radio waves?
High wavelength
low frequency
low energy
what are the properties of gamma waves?
short wavelength
high frequency
high energy
what are gamma rays used for?
treating cancers
when does refraction occur?
when a wave passes from one medium into another medium, causing it to change direction.
are dark surfaces good or bad absorbers?
good absorbers
what colour surfaces are good emitters?
black
what surfaces are good reflectors?
shiny surfaces
properties of converging lenses:
can cure longsightedness
a real image
is magnified
diverging lense properties:
virtual image
correct short-sightedness
smaller image
refraction practical:
1) sketch around a glass block
2) draw a normal perpendicular to the mirror.
3) measure angle next to the normal.
4) then sketch the incident rays
5) move the ray box so it shines through the glass
6) Draw 3 crosses along the refracted beam
7) draw a line between where the light entered and left the glass
Then calculate the angle of refraction.
definition of refraction:
the change of direction of light, as it passes from one medium to another.
