P2 - Using the suns energy Flashcards
Where is some of the suns energy stored?
Fossil Fuels
what do photocells generate?
Direct current (DC)
what is direct current?
it means it just flows in the same direction instead of AC switching directions
what a photocells usually made of?
silicon
what happens when the sunlight falls on the photocell?
the silicon absorb some of the energy, knocking loose some electrons, they then flow around a circuit which is electricity
Advantages of a photocell…
they are sturdy, low maintenance, last a long time, no fuel or power cables, its renewable
Disadvantages of a photo cell…
no sunlight no power, not good when the weathers bad
what can one curved mirror power? what can lots of curved mirrors power?
solar oven and generate steam to create electricity
Ads of curved mirror…
track the suns light energy and if they are pointed directly to the sun they can collect the maximum amount of heat
