ANTICHOLINERGIC
Xerostomia, URT infection
Bowel obstruction, Cerebrovascular accident, Bronchospasm
Toxicity: Spiriva
ANTICHOLINERGIC
bladder obstruction / urine retention
narrow-angle glaucoma
prostatic hyperplasia
Patient Counsel: Spiriva
Not Rescue inhaler!
Caps = inhaled (Handihaler = cap twice)
Max benefit: 1-2 months
AE: increased HR, dry mouth, constipation, urine retention, RTI, sinusitis

paradoxical bronchospasm
-HandiHaler = COPD
-Respimat = COPD, Asthma
COMMON Adverse Effects: Combivent Respimat/DuoNeb

Toxicity: Ipratropium/Albuterol
PARADOXICAL BRONCHOSPASM!!
Patient counsel: Ipratropium/Albuterol
- Wash mouthpiece
- store room temp
- use entire vial over 5-15 minutes
clinical pearls: Ipratropium/Albuterol
anticholinergic effects
use caution w/ bladder obstruction, glaucoma, BPH
AE: Hydroxyzine HCl (Atarax, Vistaril)
no common or rare but serious
less common: sedation/fatigue, headache, dry mouth
toxicity: Vistaril
severe CNS toxicity
patient counsel: Atarax
avoid mental alertness activities - dizziness, sedation
clinical pearls: hydroxyzine
injectable - perioperative pain / sedation
reduce dose 50% for CrCl <50 ml/min
AE: Meclizine
sedation, anaphylaxis
toxicity: Antivert
CNS
Patient counsel: Bonine
- avoid driving
- avoid alcohol
- w/ food
- caution w/ pts: asthma, glaucoma, BPH
AE of Benzonatate
chewed caps = NUMBNESS
hypersensitivity
toxicity: Benzonatate
HYPERSENSITIVITY
Rash, Itching, diff. breathing/swallowing, Confusion, Hallucinations
patient counsel: Tessalon Pearles
