P1: Energy for the Home Flashcards
Temperature measures what? And in what unit of measurement?
It measures how hot something is. The unit of measurement is degrees Celsius and sometimes in degrees Fahrenheit. Heat is a form of energy and is measured in Joules, J.
What is the formula for working out the total amount of energy used to make the temperature rise?
Total Energy Supplied = Energy Supplied Per Second x Number Of Seconds
How do you find the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of an object by a certain amount?
Energy (J) = Mass (kg) x Specific Heat Capacity (J/kg/Degrees C) x Temperature Change (Degrees C)
How do you work out the energy required to boil or melt a certain mass of a material?
Energy (J) = Mass (kg) x Specific Latent Heat (J/kg)
