P1 Energy Flashcards
Kinetic Energy
All moving things store kinetic energy
Thermal energy
The energy a substance or an object stores because of its tempature e.g fire
Elastic potential energy
The energy stored in a springy object when u stretch are squash it e.g a spring
Gravitational potential energy
The energy stored in a object because of its position above the ground
Chemical energy
Energy stored in a fuel e.g food or a battery
Mechanical working
Anything that involves a force like surfaces being in contact or throwing a ball
Electrical working
Any type of transfer through currents or wires
Heating by particles
Heat moving from 1 place to another through conduction and convection. Not kinetic energy e.g rubbing hands together is mechanical working
Heating by radiation
Heat radiation and any electro magnetic waves (light waves)
The principal conservation of energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed
Work done equation
Work done = Force X Distance
W=F X S
Weight equation
Weight= mass X gravity
W=M X G
Gravity on earth
9.8 N/kg
Measurement of mass
Kg
Measurement of Weight
Newtons (N)
Measurement of Gravity
Newtons per Kg n/kg
