CBT is the most commonly used psychological treatment for depression. CBT begins with an assessments in which the patient and therapist clarify the patients problems. They identity goals and put together a plan.

What does the therapist help to change?

A

Therapist will help to change irrational or negative thoughts that would benefit from challenge . CBT then involves working to challenge those thoughts and put more effective behaviours into place. Some rely on Beck’s theory and therapy, some from Ellis and many use both.
