Q

How does imetelstat work ?

A
  • Anti-sense therapy is when a genetic sequence is known to cause a particular disease, then a strand of DNA/RNA can be synthesised that will bind to mRNA produced by the genes and inactivate it.
  • Anti-sense oligonucleotides are small RNA/DNA molecules that are used for this purpose.
  • E.g.Imetelstat
  • Imetelstat is an antisense oligonucleotide that inhibits telomerase activity, and impede cell growth. It is in phase 2 trials for myeloproliferative neoplasms – myelofibrosis and ET
