Origin insertion action Flashcards
QL origin and insertion
origin: iliac crest & iliolumbar ligament
insertion: 12th rib, Tp’s L1-4
QL action
unilaterally: lateral flexion of the vertebral column (hip hike)
bilaterally: helps with lumbar extension, depress and stabilise 12th rib
Superficial paraspinals
longissimus thoracic OI
O: transverse process of lumbar vertebrae and adjacent thoracolumbar fascia
I: insert to transverse processes of all thoracic vertebrae and adjacent regions of lower 10 ribs
Superficial paraspinals action
bilat: extend lumbar and thoracic spine, control flexion
uni: lateral flexion and rotation
Superficial paraspinals
iliocostalis thoracic OI
O: TP’s c7 to upper 6 ribs
I: angles of the lower 6 ribs
superficial paraspinals
iliocostalis lumborum OI
O: sacrum, iliac crest, SP of LX
I: lower 6 ribs near the rib angle
Deep paraspinals
Multifidus OI
O: posterior sacrum and erector spinae aponeurosis, TP of TX and articular processes of lower 4 cervical vertebrae
i: spinous processes 2-4 vertebrae superior to the origin
Deep paraspinals
Rotatores OI
O: TP of each TX vertebrae
I: SP’s of the vertebrae above (brevis) and 2 above (longus)
Deep paraspinals action
stabilise vertebrae in local movements of the vertebral column
involved in extension and rotation
Rectus abdominis OI
O: pubic crest, pubic symphysis
I: cartilage of the 5-7 ribs, xiphoid process
Rec ab action
flexes vertebral column, compress abdomen
Glute max OI
O: gluteal surface of the ilium, lateral surface of the sacrum, coccyx and sacrotuberous ligament
I: ITB, gluteal tuberosity of the femur
Glute max action
powerful hip extension (running, stair climbing)
maintain an erect posture
assist in lateral rotation of the hip
upper firbres involved in abduction
Glute med OI
O: external surface of the ilium between the posterior and anterior gluteal lines
I: lateral surface of the greater trochanter
