What type of formula is this: CnH2n+2?

A

General formula

20
Q

What type of formula is this?

A

Displayed formula

21
Q

What type of formula is this: CH3CH2CH3?

A

Structural formula

22
Q

What type of formula is this?

A

Skeletal formula

23
Q

What is structural isomerism?

A

Structural isomers are compounds with the same molecular formula but different structural formula

24
Q

What is homolytic fission?

A

When a covalent bond breaks by homolytic fission each of the bonded atoms takes one of the shared elecrons from the bonds

25
Q

What is heterolytic fission?

A

When a covalent bond breaks by heterolytic fission, one of the bonded atoms takes both of the electrons from the bond

26
Q

Why do alkanes not react with most common reagents?

A

C-H and C-C bonds are strong

C-C bonds are non polar

The electronegativety of carbon and hyrogen is so similar that the C-H bond can be considered to be non-polar
