Organ Systems Flashcards
What does the digestive system include?
Gland, pan crease salivary glands- produce digestive juices
The stomach + small intestine where digestion occurs
The liver which produces bile
The small intestine where absorption of soluble food occurs
The large intestine hw are water is absorbed from the undigested food, producing faeces.
What are plant organs
Stems roots and leaves
Describe what happens to food as it is digested
The insoluble food is mixed with digestive juices produced by glands. It is digested in the stomach and small intestine, bile produced by the liver is added to help the food digest. Absorption of the soluble food takes In the small intestine. Water is absorbed by the large intestine
What is the food we eat made of
Large insoluble molecules
What must happen to the large insoluble molecules for them to be absorbed
They need to be digested into smaller, soluble molecules
What are the 2 glands involved in digestion
Pancreas and salivary glands
What are the 2 main organs where digestion occurs
Stomach and small intestine
Where are the soluble food molecules absorbed into the blood
Small intestine
How is the small intestine adapted to increase diffusion from the gut into the blood
It has a very large surface area
Where does the undigested food go
The muscular walls of the gut squeeze the undigested food onwards into your large intestine
Where is water absorbed from the undigested food into the blood
Large intestine
What does the material left from the undigested food form
Faeces
How is faeces released
It is stored then passed through the reclusive and anus back into the environment
What are some plant organs
Leaves, stems, roots,
What tissues does a plant have
Mesophyll, xylem and phloem
