Apthous ulcers are also called:
Canker sores. Not contagious.
Types of apthous ulcers:
Minor (under 1cm)
Major (over 1cm)
Herpetiform
Predisposing factors for apthous ulcers:
- HLA association
- Haematinic deficiency (Vit B12, Folate, Iron)
- IBD, Coeliac
- Drugs
- Quit smoking
- Stress
- Trauma
- Endocrine
Tx for apthous ulcers:
Topical steroids
List 3 blood disorders which may cause ulcers
- Anaemia
- Haematinic deficiency
- Leukaemia
List 3 viral infections which may cause mouth ulcers
- VZV (Chicken Pox, Shingles)
- Coxsackie Virus (Hand, foot, mouth)
- HSV (Herpetic Stomatitis)
List 3 bacterial infections which may cause mouth ulcers
- Tuberculosis
- Syphilis
- ANUG
List 3 GI conditions which may cause mouth ulcers
- Celiac
- Crohns
- Ulcerative Colitis
List 4 skin conditions which may cause mouth ulcers
- Erythema Multiforme
- Pemphigus Vulgaris
- Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid
- Lichen Planus

Mouthwash and will heal in 6-10 weeks
