Optics/Physics Flashcards
How fast does light travel ?
300,000,000 mps
What is the relationship between the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection ?
The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection
What are the colours of the visible spectrum ?
Red,Orange,Yellow,Green,Blue,Indigo and Violet
(ROY G BIV)
What is it called when light changes direction through a new medium ?
Refraction
What are the two lenses called ?
Concave and Convex
What does the cornea do ?
The cornea is a clear protective layer at the front of the eye that also refracts light
What does the retina do ?
The Retina is a light sensitive layer that converts light to electrical impulses
What does the lens do ?
The lens focuses light on the retina
What does the pupil do ?
The pupil is a hole at the front of your eye which allows light to enter
What does the iris do ?
The iris is a coloured muscle that alters the size of the pupil
What does the optic nerve do ?
The optic nerve carries electrical impulses from the retina to the brain
What lens corrects long sightedness ?
The convex lens
What lens corrects short sightedness ?
The concave lens
How many applications of light can you name ?
Telescope, Microscope, Light bulb, Cats eyes, Periscope.
Can you name the longest too shortest waves of the electromagnetic spectrum ?
Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, UV, X-Ray and Gamma Ray
