Opthamology Flashcards
MOA and class Latanoprost
Prostaglandin analogue, increases uveoscleral outflow. May cause brown pigmentiation of irisand increased eyelash length
MOA and class Timolol and betaxolol
Beta blockers: Reduce aqueous production
MOA and class of brimonidine
Sympathomimetics, alpha 2 adrenoreceptor agonist: reduces aqueous produciton and increases outflow: dont take with MOAi or tricyclics
MOA and class of Dorzolamide
Cabonic anhydrase inhibitor reduced aqueous production.
NMOA and class of Pilocarpine
Muscarinic receptor agonist: increase uveoscleral outflow. Constricted pupil, blurred vision on occasion.
Definition of glaucoma
Optic neuropathy: rasie intraoccular pressure.
The split in definiton open vs. closed angle is whether the iris is covering the trabecular meshwork of the peripheral iris.
Treatment tier of glaucoma
NICE guidelines:
first line: prostaglandin analogue (PGA) eyedrop
second line: beta-blocker, carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, or sympathomimetic eyedrop
if more advanced: surgery or laser treatment can be tried2
