Q

Explain Boyle’s law

A

Vol inversely equal to pressure
On board this means the higher the altitude the more vol. is available the less air pressure. O2 still at 21% however, there is less of all gases in the atmosphere. Therefore lungs compensate by filling with more air yet we are still less oxygenated. This affects internal respiration negatively. Saturation lowers everyone is hypoxic when they fly more then 8000 ft.

Q

What are some signs and symptoms found at different levels of altitude?

A

0-10000 indifferent
> 10000 drunk with many ppl s/s

Q

If the patient is hypoxic what do we do?

A

If many ppl affected descend plane / O2

If one person affected O2 suppl.

Q

What can negatively affect oxygenation and why?

A

Weather can require the pilot to fly higher causing o2 to be more scarce.

Q

Explain Dalton’s law and give an example

A

Barometric pressure ( 760 mmHg) = to the sum of all partial pressures. O2 21% N 78% ,0.05% Co2 H2O exerts pressure too

9
Q

Explain Henri’s law

A

Partial pressure of a gas in liquid = Partial pressure of gas in gaseous form.
Alveolar Po2 = 100 mmHg so does Capillary PO2. This is used in hyperbaric chamber. CO, skin grafts, gangrene. >O2 is forced into blood.
