what is the pathophysiology?
A
olecranon is site of insertion of triceps tendon - responsible for extension of elbow

what are the symptoms?
A
pain well localised to posterior elbow

what are the signs?
A
palpable defect indicates displaced fracture/severe comminution
inability to extend elbow indicates discontinuity of triceps mechanism

what is the elbow unable to do?
A
extension

what investigations are used?
A
x-ray - AP and lateral
CT - if needed pre-op planning
