Oil System Flashcards
Oil system capacity
18.5 US quarts
Oil tank capacity
10 US quarts
Oil system components
Pressure, scavenge, cooling and breather systems
What does the oil system provide?
a constant supply of filtered oil to the engine bearings, reduction gears, accessory drives and propeller
Pressure system specs
- 2 oil pickup elements
- 1 submerged in oil; collects from center of tank
- 1 collects oil from the top of the tank during inverted flight; stops oil px loss
Scavenging system specs
- 2 dual element gear type pumps
- one is inside, the other outside of the accessory gearbox
- returns scavenged oil from bearings and gearbox
Cool system specs
scavenged oil is routed through the oil cooler in the lower aft cowling assembly before returning to the oil tank
Breather system specs
- oil tank which is integrally cast wit the compressor inlet vents into accessory gearbox by a 4 point breather system
- includes a breather valve + centrifugal breather
When engine is shutdown, how many PSI can the oil px display?
up to 4 PSI
Oil filter specs
- filtered by main oil filter and several strainers
- if clogged, filter bypass valve allows unfiltered oil to continue to lubricate the engine
What system uses transducers downstream of the main oil pump to send signals?
Engine Data Manager (EDM)
What does the EDM pass px data to?
Signal Conditioning Unit (SCU)
What does the SCU do?
illums warning annunciators on CWS panel
SCU failure indications
oil px in normal op range with CWS illumination
OIL TRX (oil px transducer) circuit breaker is where?
front cockpit battery bus
