N.S Clinical Procedures Flashcards
Cerebral angiography
x-ray of blood vessels using injected contrast dye
Computed tomography (CT) of the brain
computarized x-ray technique that generates multiple images of the nrain and spinal cord
MRI- Magnetic resonance imaging
magnetic field and pulses of radiowave energy create images of the brain and spinal cord
PET- Positron emission tomography scan
radioactive glucose is injected and then detected in the brain to image the metabolic activity of the cell
EEG-Electroencephalography
recording of the electrical activity of the brain
Doppler ultrasound studies
sound waves detect blood flow in the carotid and intracranial arteries
Lumbar Puncture
The patient lies laterally, with the knees drawn up to the abdomen and the chin brought down to the chest.
Needle is inserted between the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae and then is advanced to enter the subarachnoid space.
