Q

What are Non-Competitive Inhibitors?

A
  • They do not have a similar shape to the substrate
  • these molecules attach to the enzyme but not the active site
  • they bind to a different site on an enzyme molecule - ALLOSTERIC
  • distorts the shape of the enzyme as a whole, so changes the shape of the active site
  • substrate molecule can no longer fit into the active site
  • reaction rate slows down

What are ORGANPHSOPHATES?

A
  • used in INSECTICIDES - to kill insects
  • they permamently join to the enzyme needed for nerve iimpulse transmission, preventing normal never impulses, reducing the paralysis and death.

Q

What are PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS (PPIs)?

A
  • Used to treat indigestion in humans
  • They permanently block the action of an enzyme needed to make stomach acid, so less acid is made,
