*NEW* ROB EXAM UNIT 2 Flashcards
What are all the types of user interfaces? HCI
GUI
Menu-based interface
CLI
What are 3 benefits of using GUI
- GUI facilitates a new user journey because its simple.
- GUI is more intuitive than most HCIs]
- GUI allows the user to interact more with icons and applications.
What are 3 limitations of GUI
- It has a graphical interface so it takes more processing power/ RAM
- Also because it has a graphical interface it takes more space on the disk is stored.
- Certain tasks may take long due to many menus to select the desired choice.
What are 3 benefits of using Menu-based interface
- Menu-based is the easiest HCI to use as it requires no knowledge of commands or opening apps to do tasks, you can just select from options displayed.
- It’s a more simple HCI and it allows the user to interact and do tasks quicker than GUI
- There are no commands to learn or remember like CLI.
What are 3 limitations of using menu-based interface.
- Menu-based interfaces are less flexible, the users can only execute actions that are listed.
- Can be hard to find a specific option if the menu system is complex
- It can be irritating if there are too many menu screens to work through just like GUI.
What are 3 benefits of using CLI
- If you know the commands, a CLI can be a lot faster and efficient than any other type of interface.
- It can also handle repetitive tasks easily
- A CLI requires less memory to use in comparison to other interfaces.-
What are 3 limitations of using CLI
- You need to learn and remember the code when you want to perform a task.
- Commands have to be typed precisely. If there is a spelling error the command will fail.
- Is the most complexed HCI in comparison to other interfaces and also is the hardest one to learn.
What are the different type of data processing function
Analysis - analyse the data Aggregate - sum it up Sort - sort it by categories Convert - convert to another form Report - spreadsheets and graphs/charts.
What is a open source software
Open source software is a software that allows the user to have access to its source code and allows modification, is usually free and really handy.
What is a proprietary software?
Proprietary software is the opposite, is a software paid that doesn’t allow the user to have access to its source code and also doesn’t allow modification.
Examples of utility software
- Computer security such as antivirus, encryption, firewall, etc..
- File Management such as file managers
- Housekeeping such as back up and restore, memory checkers, etc..
- Disk handling such as disk cleaners, disk defragmenters, disk space analysers, etc…
What is application software
is a computer program designed to perform a task(s) or activities for the benefit of the user.
Examples of application software
Excel, Word, PowerPoint, all these are application software and they can be used for many different purposes, application software is any software that can benefit the user, such as excel that can be used by a restaurant to control cash flow.
What are the benefits of using a open source software?
Usually free
Free Support - user’s can get free support
Fewer Bugs and Faster Fixes - because the user can do that their selves or get help from community.
Better Security - as there community is huge and they are always finding failures and fixing them instantly
What are the limitations of using an open source software
Usability - It can be quite tricking trying to use an open source software because if there’s a unexperienced user then this user will never actually look at the source code and this turns OSS more complexed.
Minimal Support Leverage - Even though you have free support, sometimes you need someone that actually listen to your problems and be there to help you just as windows do when there’s any problems you have exclusive support from them.
