Neurons (Unit 2) Flashcards
receives messages from other cells
Dendrites
passes messages away from cell body to other neurons, muscles or gland
Axon
covers the axon of some neurons and helps speed neural impulses
Myelin Sheath
form junctions with other cells
Axon Ternimals
action potential, electrical signal traveling down the axon
Neural Impulse
A neural impulse; a brief electrical charge that travels down the axon of a neuron
Action Potential
a brief recharging phase, when a neuron, after firing, cannot generate another action potential
Refractory Period
The state of a neuron when it is at rest and capable of generating an action potential
Resting Potential
stating that if a neuron fires, then it always fires at the same intensity; all action potentials have the same strength
All or None Principle
