neurons Flashcards
what do neuron structures consist of
Dendrites
Axon
Axon terminal
Cell body
Myelin sheath
Node of ranvier
what happens when signals are transferred through a neuron
the neuron receives a signal via dendrites that cause the action potential to travel down the axon to the axon terminal
what’re the 3 neurons
Motor, Relay, Sensory
what is the motor neuron
Located in the CNS, releases neurotransmitters that bind to muscle receptors, triggering responses
what are sensory neurons
Located in receptor cells (such as eyes, skin), carries impulses to the CNS which are then translated into sensations (eg vision, touch)
what is the relay neuron
between sensory and motor neurons in the CNS, allows sensory and motor neurons to communicate
