Neurology Flashcards
when does anterior fontanelle closes
9-18 mo
when does posterior fontanelle closes?
6-8 weeks
CN1 can be tested as early as?
32 wks AOG
muscle tone in 28 weeks
all 4 extremities are extended
muscle tone in 32 weeks
flexor tone in lower extremities
muscle tone in 36 weeks
flexor tone in upper extremities
muscle tone in normal term
flexion of all 4 extremities
muscle tone in neonates
postural tone
what are the 3 test for postural tone in neonates
traction response, vertical response and horizontal response
how to do traction response? and what is the normal reaction?
examiner grasps infant’s hands and pulls infant to sitting position. Normal: head lags slightly behind body and then falls forward upon reaching sitting position
how to do vertical suspension? normal response?
examiner holds infant by axilla without gripping thorax. Normal: infant remains suspended, lower extremity in flexion
how to do horizontal suspension? normal response?
examiner holds infant prone by placing hand under abdomen. Normal: head rises, limbs flex
what is called by initial resistance to passive motion followed by sudden release (clasp-knife phenomenon)
spacticity
what is the resistance to passive movement equal in flexor and extensors (lead pipe)
rigidity
age of infants where they can have 5-10 clonus
younger than 3 months
