Neuroendocrine,cancer, Chromosomes Flashcards
Role of endocrine glands
Secrete hormones into systemic circulation
What mediates the endocrinesystem?
Hormones
Role of hormones
Chemical messengers that transport information from the endocrine/exocrine glands to target system
Hormone secretion is regulated by?
Feedback mechanisms, autoregulation
Neurosecretary hormones
ADH & cortisol
Hormones released from the anterior rotary
Growth hormone (somatotropin) ) adrenocoticotropic hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone) follicle stimulating hormone) luteinizing hormone/ prolactin
What is TRH
Thyrotropin releasing hormone
What is the target site for TRH
Anterior pituitary
What is the target site forTSH
Thyroid
What is CRH
Corticotropin releasing hormone
Once CRH reaches the anterior pituitary-gland what gets released?
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
ADH stimulatesthe adrenal cortex to release what?
Cortisol
Give an example of a negative feedback loop.
The hypothalamus releases corticotropin releasing hormone to the anterior pituitary gland which then releases adrenocoticotropic hormone which stimulates the adrenal contexts release cortisol. Cortisol levels feed back to the anterior pituitary to inhibit the release of adrenocoticotropic hormone and to the hypothalamus to stop releasing corticotropin hormone.
Where is the target site for gonadotropin releasing hormones
Anterior pituitary which then releases follicle stimulating hormone and lutienizibg hormone to the testes to make testosterone and the ovaries to make estrogen.
