Neural Flashcards
Function of:
Cerebral cortex
Cerebellum
Brain stem/spinal cord
Cerebral cortex: Plans and initiates voluntary motor activity
Cerebellum: Coordination
Brain stem/spinal cord: Spinal reflexes
Function of sensory and motor cortex:
Sensory: Collects information from sensors throughout the body and transmits it to the brain
Motor: conducts signals to activate muscle contraction
What are sensory neurons?
Afferent_ nerve fibres
Signal travels towards the brain
What are motor neurons?
Efferent_ nerve fibres
Signal travels away from brain
What 2 systems does our kinesthetic sense have?
vestibular system: Tells us where our body is in space, using the semi circular canals in inner ear
Proprioceptive system: Tells us where our body parts are relative to our body. In muscle, tendon , joint capsule.
